Anniversary at the Zoo- Thursday, July 20, 2006
For our 15th wedding anniversary on Thursday, July 20, we decided to spend the day with the four of us together and visit the "World Famous San Diego Zoo."
We started at the koalas. They don't move much, but we got to see their faces. They were cute. I liked the secretary bird, and don't remember ever seeing one before. The polar bears and the hippo were especially cool because we got to see them from underwater viewing areas, looking into their tanks. We waited in line to see the pandas, and it was worth it. The baby panda was hanging from a tree, looking down at us. Emma seemed to like the monkey trail the best. I don't know what Anna liked the best- probably all of it. Anna and I rode the cable cars across the park and back. We finished by riding on the upper deck of the bus tour. The bus was a little disappointing because we couldn't see much, but it was reassuring to see that we had already covered most of the zoo and were getting a glimpse of the few places we hadn't been. We didn't know that the bus was included in our tickets to begin with or we probably would have started with it.
The zoo was fun, but I wonder if it got it's national reputation just because it was close to where the Tonight Show was filmed. The plants were beautiful, but Julie felt that the busses going by were a bit of a distraction. There was a heck of a lot of hills to go up and down, making walking difficult, not enjoyable. There seemed to be a long way between some animals and we thought we were imagining it but there seemed to be animals repeated in some spots. That's not to say that we didn't enjoy the zoo, but there have been others that we have enjoyed more. Cleveland springs to mind for me. Julir liked Atlanta for its displays, even though it was small.
We ended up having dinner at T.G.I. Friday's.
Julie's fever broke in the night, and although she still has a cough, she is feeling world's better.
