July 5- And We're Off

This year’s summer trip seemed like a long time coming. After we got out of school, we had a busy week at home. Julie’s cousin Corey came up from Georgia and stayed with us. We picked him up at the airport last Thursday, and showed him around Buffalo on Friday. Of course, John and Christine’s wedding was on Saturday. We dropped Corey off again at the airport on Sunday, found time to go sutlering at Fort Niagara and spent the rest of the 4th of July in the house. The only fireworks we watched were the ones in the neighborhood (though there are an awful lot of those).

We hadn’t officially been planning on leaving on this trip until tomorrow, but we were all hoping that we could get our things together to leave today, on Monday. We spent the morning mowing the lawn, doing laundry, and packing. Anna and Dad bought some things for Mom’s upcoming birthday. We dropped the animals off at their baby sitters, and finally got on the road in the late afternoon.

We’ve learned that when we’ve got a lot of different destinations over the course of a trip, that its most convenient to get our driving done in the evening. If you get to where you’re going, then you can hit the sights in the morning and afternoon, and get the most out of the day that way. So now we’re in our hotel in Watertown, NY. It’s a little after 9:00 and we’ve just arrived. Anna is going to the pool, of course, and Emma is content to watch tv in the hotel. We’ll all be fresh and ready to go tomorrow.
