Going home- Tuesday, January 13, 2015

Julie knew how much I was going to hate the bus ride to New Orleans.  She remembered when we took the overnight us trip to New York City and I spent a big chunks of time there looking for a rent-a-car so we didn't have to take the bus back  (We took it anyway).  A week or two ago we started checking out plane fares and saw that a one-way ticket from New Orleans would cost about $225.  The trick was, I'd have to find a way to get my gun home, so I asked George and Elizabeth.  They were happy to take it.  They left New Orleans yesterday and are expecting to drop the musket off to me on Friday when they pass through Western New York.

So I'm flying solo for the first time ever.  I got up and got a cab to Louis Armstrong Airport before the rest of the people had boarded the bus.  I'm typing this in JFK and they're probably still in Alabama or something like that.  I'm going to be in Buffalo tonight by about 6:00 if all goes as planned.  They'll still be looking at an overnight ride of at least 18 hours or more-- who knows?  I expect there was some jostling for my now empty seat.  I should have auctioned it off!

It will also mean that I will only use 4 personal days instead of 6.  Friday's snow day won't count against me and I'll be back to school tomorrow, one day earlier than I originally expected.

It was an awesome trip, though.  Thanks for letting me do it, Julie.
