When we were thinking about places to go during Easter break, we kicked around several ideas, but eventually settled on Chicago, and were starting to really look forward to it. Then the bitter cold temperatures in February took away the make-up days from our break which were originally supposed to make up for school days we lost to snow this winter. That meant we would have days taken away from our Easter break too-- two for West Seneca and one for JFK. So Chicago didn't seem like such a good idea anymore. (As it turned out, our school days were also over the 150th Anniversary of Appomattox as well.)
Scott had an 1812 drill scheduled in Toronto, so we decided to make a family weekend of it. The girls dropped Scott off for drill at Fort York at about 10:30. It was a little chilly, and Scott's musket hadn't been cleaned since New Orleans, but it was a good time. Scott got to look through the new Visitor's Centre with some others from the group, though they all agreed it was not as impressive inside as they had hoped. It was a chilly morning to start out with, but when the sun came out in the afternoon, Scott was really enjoying being out on the parade ground and looking up to see the CN Tower peeking out from around the condominiums of the skyline.
Meanwhile, the girls went to Ripley's Aquarium. It was their second time there, but it's a fun site. Their favorites included the jelly fish, sea dragons, and cuttlefish. They rode the slowmoving walkway under the sharks. They petted horseshoe crabs, and tried to pet the rays too, but they were too far away. They ate at Boston Pizza and brought a couple of slices for Scott. They met him at the fort at about 3:00. There was still a little bit of drill left, but Scott took his leave at that time and left with them.
We got a hotel room near the airport, changed our clothes, and went out again. We ended up at IKEA for dinner. We walked through the store, but only bought an apple scented candle. We're back at the hotel now and the girls are going swimming.
