Friday, July 27, 2007: Comic Con and Sea World

Today we went separate ways. After the grueling drive to San Diego, Scott went to Comic Con, while Julie and the girls circled back to Sea World.

Julie’s Part:
The girls and I went to Sea World today. We got to pet star fish and bat rays. The bat rays felt like leather and looked like large bats. We watched a show that starred dogs, cats, and pigs (Anna’s favorite). The girls played in the water park, and the play area. In the play area, we climbed a rope bridge as tall as our house, and Julie almost got stuck. Emma had a lunch of watermelon while watching flamingos. The weather they say was in the triple digits. Even though we had on sun screen, Julie still got burnt shoulders. We had a great time but boy are we exhausted. Also, we had dinner at Jack in the Box, a California fast food restaurant.

Scott’s part:
Comic-con is in full swing and very crowded. For the first time ever, it is sold out. I started the day by waiting in line for a chance to get a ticket for an autograph from Neil Gaiman, but I knew that was a long shot. I got a few autographs from other people that were in booths on the convention floor and spent a while exploring. I went to the panel of DC Comics creators this evening, and Dan Didio, the editor and host of the panel, makes it a very enjoyable time. The DC Comics booth feels like my home there because I’m always touching base back there to see who’s in or what freebies are out.

My favorite costumes today might have been the guys (or girls?) wearing the old-school Cylon costumes. They looked like they were from the set of Battlestar Galactica. Not only did they have the pulsing red-light for eyes, but they also had the humming sound effect to go along with it.

I posted a little about it on Monitor Duty tonight.
