Friday- June 27, 2003 Camping
School's out and we're off! Actually, Julie's last day was a half day yesterday. Scott technically has a half day today, but he was not interested in just sitting around waiting for a paycheck to come, so he used a personal day.
Well, that didn't last long. We were still on French Road when we discover the girls had iPads in the car, so Scott went back for his too. We made a few more stops in town, including one to get Julie's kayak, and were on the road around noon.
We're going to go camping. We're headed towards Ogdensburg and Sackets Harbor where Scott's last two 1812 walks are. We've got the tent and other items packed, including a new cot for Scott to see if he can spend the night in the tent instead of heading to the car.
We've got a few stops to make this morning. For one, Julie is going to buy a new kayak. It will be an early birthday present for her. She doesn't need a new one as much as Anna does. Anna is so long now she doesn't really fit in the small one anymore, so Julie's getting a new one, Anna gets hers and Emma is going to be able to use the small one.
Since we're camping, Julie made the rule that the girls aren't allowed to bring electronics. Unfortunately, that also means the iPad that we usually blog on. That means we won't be blogging regularly this time. We only expect to be gone for four days, and we will be taking pictures, so we'll have to catch up when we get back home.
Friday, June 27, continued-
We got to Sackets Harbor shortly after 4:00. Unfortunately, the vistor's center had just closed, so we weren't sure how we were going to find the campground. We did get there and got camp set up. We haven't used the tent for a couple of years, but it went up easily enough. Around six, we went to Watertown for dinner at Bob Evans.
We picked up some supplies-- i.e.. stuff for breakfast-- before returning to camp. There's a path right by our campsite that leads through some woods down to a tiny little private beach for the campsite. Of course, both girls waded into Lake Ontario there. Then we went back to camp and eventually got a campfire going. Scott is writing this on the iPad by the campfire.
