Streets of Bakersfield- Saturday, July 15, 2006
We woke up later yesterday, anticipating a more laid back day. We had seen sequoias the night before, so we didn't have to go out of our way to see more. Furthermore, the original plan had us seeing Buck Owens in concert that night. Since he passed away in January, a large void was created in our schedule that we never really filled. Julie called ahead to Anaheim to see if we could add Saturday night to our already pre-paid nights so that we could arrive a night early.
We still went to Buck Owens's Crystal Palace in Bakersfield. We hoped to have lunch there, but they're only open for dinner. We got to tour his museum, filled with red, white, and blue guitars and rhinestone covered Nudie suits. The exhibits surround the restaurant/stage area and that made me wish all the more that we could have had a chance to see him perform there.
When we arrived in Anaheim later that afternoon, we found that when the hotel had added Saturday night to our schedule, they had deleted the other three (even though we had already paid for them). They promised us that they would fix the problem, even though they were all booked. We have yet to see how that will play out.
We ordered a Papa John's pizza, and by then the three girls wanted to go to Downtown Disney to do some shopping. We're practically next door to Disneyland, so it was only a short trip. Emma bought a Minnie Mouse dressed as a princess. Anna, oddly enough, bought an Eeyore. I think she has bought an Eeyore every time that she has visited a Disney park. It's her tradition, I guess.
Anna has some big news too. She has a loose tooth. She is all excited about it, and has been waiting for a loose tooth ever since her classmates started losing theirs. She was asking us questions about the Tooth Fairy in the car on Friday, but only revealed the tooth to us last night. I think she is even more excited about the tooth than she is about Disneyland.
It is Sunday morning as I am typing this and we will be spending the day in Disneyland at the California Adventure, the new park.
