Leaving Staunton- Saturday, October 17, 2026
Yesterday, Scott had mentioned that he wanted to see the four stools downtown that were part of a tribute to the Statlers. He had seen pictures of it, but had never seen it in person. When we got to where we thought they were, there was construction there and that corner was completely torn up. If we were in the right place, they were not there now.
Scott wanted to take his parents to the new Buc-ee's that they had passed on the way down. They had never been to a Buc-ee's before and were in for a treat. It's basically a tourist attraction on its own. Scott immediately knew what he was going to get Julie when he saw it-- pajama bottoms and a top that picture long-haired Scottish cows with Christmas lights and the words, "I Herd the Bells." It was perfect for Julie Meanwhile, Scott's Dad saw them preparing beef brisket and decided it looked really good. It was too early for lunch, but he bought a barbecue sandwich anyway and he and Mom ate it right away. They said it was really good.
The rest of the trip passed relatively uneventfully. Scott either read or slept in the back seat. When we arrived in Springville, Scott expected to have to stay the night there and ride in to Wyatt's party with his folks tomorrow. Julie could hear how much Scott really preferred to be home in his own bed. Since she was done helping Anna decorate the fire hall, Julie, Abby and Buttercup came to bring him home.
